Rodrigo Benítez Ureta / Senior Associate
Rodrigo Benitez Ureta (Santiago, Chile, 1980) is a Senior Associate and member of the Environmental and Natural Resources Area. He has vast experience in those subjects both in the private and public sectors.
Rodrigo is counsel to diverse companies in their project planning and environmental assessment, and in the defense of those projects before the Environmental Commission, the Environmental Courts and the Ordinary Courts.
Rodrigo started out with Jara del Favero, and was with the firm from 2006 to 2010. This latter year, he left to become Head of the Legal Department of the Ministry of the Environment. He was later appointed Undersecretary of that Ministry, a position he held until March 2014. From there he moved to Baker & McKenzie, where he worked through January 2016, when he returned to Jara del Favero.
He has been a member of the Presidential Advisory Commission for the Evaluation of the Environmental Impact Assessment System since 2015, appointed by President Michelle Bachelet. This commission is studying improvements to the environmental assessment laws, regulations and to the management of the environmental assessment system.
Rodrigo is a professor of Environmental Law at the Catholic University Law School in Chile, and in the Master’s Program at the Finis Terrae University Law School.
He has published diverse articles and academic research on Environmental Law.
