On February 18, 2025, Law No. 21.727 was published in the Official Gazette, extending the deadline established in Law No. 21.435 for the registration and recording of water use rights.
In essence, Law No. 21.727 establishes the following:
- Extension of the deadline for the registration and recording of water use rights: The deadline is extended until April 6, 2027, for registering water use rights granted by an act of authority in the Water Property Registry of the corresponding Real Estate Registrar and for recording them in the Public Water Cadastre.
- Recording in the Public Water Cadastre: Real Estate Registrars must inform the General Water Directorate (DGA) of the water use rights registrations carried out under this provision, attaching a copy of the current ownership certificate and the respective registration. Consequently, the sanction for failing to register within the established deadline will not apply.
