Public Consultation on Proposals for the Creation of Protected Areas within the Framework of the Protected Salt Flats Network for the Regions of Antofagasta and Atacama

On September 10, 2025, the Official Gazette published the excerpts of the following resolutions issued by the Ministry of the Environment:

  • • Exempt Resolution No. 6,112 of 2025, which submits for public consultation the proposed creation of the following protected areas under the framework of the protected salt flats network for the Antofagasta Region:
  1. Laguna Hedionda National Park.
  2. Laguna Helada National Park.
  3. Laguna Chivato Muerto National Park, Salar de Aguas Calientes Centro 2 or Pili, Laguna Trinchera, and Laguna Lejía.
  4. Salar de Loyoques or Quisquiro National Park.
  5. Laguna Tuyajto National Park, Salar de Aguas Calientes Sur 3 or Purisunchi Talar, Salar de Capur or Talar, and Salar El Laco.
  • • Exempt Resolution No. 6,113 of 2025, which submits for public consultation the proposed creation of the following protected areas under the framework of the protected salt flats network for the Atacama Region
  1. Salar de Pedernales and Salar de la Laguna National Reserve.
  2. Salar Gorbea National Park.
  3. Laguna del Bayo or Wheelright, Lagunas Bravas, and Lagunas de Jilguero National Park.
  4. Las Parinas National Park.
  5. Virgin Region Reserve of Andean Lagoons Las Parinas and Redonda.
  6. Virgin Region Reserve of Laguna Escondida and Salar de Eulogio.
  7. Salar de Maricunga National Park.

The deadline to submit comments on these proposals is October 15, 2025.
